The Language Laboratory provides a variety of services designed to support students, faculty, and staff in language learning, research, teaching, and digital content creation. Through innovative technologies, specialized academic services, and collaborative learning opportunities, the lab serves as a hub for language education and multimedia production within the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures.

AI Support
The Language Laboratory supports the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for language learning, teaching, research, and productivity. Students and faculty can explore AI-powered tools that assist with language practice, content creation, research support, and instructional innovation.

Immersive Learning (VR/XR)
Experience language learning in new and engaging ways through immersive technologies, including virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR) platforms. The Language Laboratory supports a variety of immersive learning environments that promote language acquisition, cultural understanding, communication skills, and experiential learning.

Virtual Immersion Program (VIP)
The Virtual Immersion Program (VIP) offers opportunities to practice language skills in interactive digital environments. Through guided activities and immersive experiences, students can develop greater confidence in communication while engaging with authentic language and cultural contexts.

Tutoring
Language tutoring services are available to help students strengthen their proficiency, improve academic performance, and build confidence in their language courses. Tutors provide support in areas such as grammar, vocabulary, conversation practice, pronunciation, and course-related assignments.

Language Requirement Waiver Exam
The Language Laboratory administers the Language Requirement Waiver Exam for eligible students. The exam currently supports Spanish and is available under specific conditions during designated periods of the academic semester.

Podcast Studio
Beginning in September 2026, the Language Laboratory will offer a dedicated podcast production space equipped with the tools needed to record and produce high-quality podcasts.
We welcome ideas for podcast episodes, whether you would like to be interviewed about innovative research or teaching, share a project, or invite a guest to participate in a conversation.
