The Outreach Program held a workshop entitled "LinguaFolio" on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM & Thursday, April 29th, 2010 from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM in the Modern Languages Laboratory (Merrick Building, Room 201) at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. The workshop was conducted byRuta Couet from the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Curriculum and Standards and President, National Council of State Supervisors for Languages. Integrating Technology in the Teaching of Chinese Mandarin

The Outreach Program held a workshop entitled "Integrating Technology in the Teaching of Chinese Mandarin" on April 23rd, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Modern Languages Laboratory (Merrick Building, Room 201) at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Dennie Hoopingarner, Director of the Language Learning Center and the Associate Director for Technology Implementation for the Center for Language Education and Research at Michigan State University and also by Dr. Chiuhung Chen, a faculty member of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami.

New Language Learning Spaces: A Guide for Teaching with Converged Media and Social Networking

The Outreach Program held a workshop entitled: ”New Language Learning Spaces: a guide for teaching with converged media and social networking” on November 18th, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Modern languages Laboratory (Merrick 201) at the university of Miami Coral gables campus. It was conducted by John Vitaglione, Director of Multimedia Design and Development at the Language Acquisition Resource Center at San Diego State University.

The What, Why and How of Podcasting for Language Learning

The Outreach Program held a workshop entitled "The What, Why and How of Podcasting for Language Learning" on April 18th, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Modern Languages Laboratory (Merrick Building, Room 201) at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. It was conducted by Dr. Dennie Hoopingarner, Director of the Language Learning Center and the Associate Director for Technology Implementation for the Center for Language Education and Research at Michigan State University.

SEALLT / MAALT 2008 - Integrating Fun Technology in Language Learning

The Outreach Program held a workshop in conjunction with the Joint SEALLT & MAALLT 2008 Conference which was held at Pine Crest School in Ford Lauderdale and Boca Raton from Wednesday, January 30th to Saturday, February 2nd, 2008. Unlike the workshops organized solely by the Program at the UM campus, the SEALLT workshops required a participation fee. The Conference website can be found HERE.

Summer Heat 2007 - Incorporating Technology Into Language Learning

From Tuesday, June 12th through Thursday, June 14th, 2007, the U Miami-Dade Outreach Program participated in a teacher training event organized by the Miami-Dade Public Schools system.  This event, called Summer Heat, is held annually by the school system to offer training for their K-12 teachers in all curriculum areas and to provide them with an opportunity to earn their required master points for their recertification. Our Outreach Program was invited to organize and present a workshop entitled "Incorporating Technology Into Language Teaching."

Next-Generation Web Technologies for Language Teaching

On September 28th, 2006, the UM Miami-Dade Foreign Languages Outreach Program held a full-day workshop in Merrick Building Room 201. The facilitator of the workshop was Dr. Dennie Hoopingarner, Director of the Language Learning Center and the Associate Director for Technology Implementation for CLEAR at Michigan State University. This workshop, entitled "Next-Generation Web Technologies for Language Teaching" taught participants how to use new internet techniques to combine elements from various sources into interactive multimedia learning resources. Using existing media and tools, students and teachers can easily maintain a library of web-based language learning materials.

Sharing Language Learning Technologies in the 21st Century

On Thursday, May 4th, 2006, the University of Miami-Dade County Outreach Program hosted a workshop entitled: "Sharing Language Learning Technologies in the 21st Century." It was conducted by the UM Instructional Advancement Center, faculty members from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Eleonore Graves Tripp Foreign Languages Laboratory staff, as well as some invited participants.

A Survey New Technologies for Language Teaching

Conducted by Dr. Dennie Hoopingarner, Assistant Director for Technology Implementation at the Center for Language Education and Research and Director of the Language Learning Center at Michigan State University, this full-day workshop entitled A Survey New Technologies for Language Teaching held on January 9th, 2006 introduced language teachers to new innovations in web-based technology, as well as pedagogical applications to harness their capabilities for enhancing language teaching. The use of blogs, wikis, and podcasts offer students and teachers new avenues for online communication and collaboration, but additional skills are needed to make effective use of these new tools. Focusing on tools, techniques, and tangibles, the workshop introduced the technologies, and gave teachers hands-on practice using the tools. Participants left the workshop with ideas and online tools that they can immediately apply to their classroom activities.

Web Design and Technology Infusion

On Thursday May 12th, 2005, the U-MPSOP held a full-day workshop entitled Web Design and Technology Infusion in World Language Instruction. This workshop was conducted by the Eleonore Graves Tripp Modern Languages Laboratory Director, Dr. Rachida Primov and the Lab Coordinator, Matthew Lubeck. Presentations were shown on both the Schoolnotes.com and Scholastic.com teacher home page builders. Bill Vilberg, Blackboard manager from the Instructional Advancement Center at the University of Miami, was also invited to review the basics of the Blackboard Program.

MSA Miami - Magnet Schools of America 23rd Annual National Conference on Magnet Schools

On Monday, April 18th, 2005, the Outreach Program Director, Dr Rachida Primov, along with two Outreach program participants, Consuelo Garcia-Menocal and Theresa Grafton, both of Ammons Middle School, presented Integrating Technology in World Language Instruction. The session explored the question of "How can you use technology to enhance World Language Instruction?"

Adding Multimedia to Online Activities

On Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004, the University of Miami Outreach Program for the Miami-Dade County International Magnet Schools held a full-day workshop for modern language instructors on "Adding Multimedia to Online Activities." The facilitator was Mrs. Carol Wilson-Duffy, Instructional Technology Coordinator from the Center for Language Education and Research at Michigan State University.

The Communicative Way to Integrate Technology into the Foreign Languages Classroom

On May 26th, 2004, the U-MPSOP held a full-day workshop starting at 8:00 AM on "The Communicative Way to Integrate Technology into the Foreign Languages Classroom." The workshop was held at the Eleonore Graves Tripp Foreign Languages Laboratory on the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus. Teacher participation in this event was free of charge, but required prior registration online or by phone.

Blackboard Workshop

The Blackboard Workshop was held on May 29th, 2003, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. The workshop took place at the Coral Gables campus in the Foreign Languages Laboratory, Merrick Building, Room 201.

SEALLT Conference

The Foreign Languages Department hosted the Southeast Association of Language Learning Technology Annual Conference on February 28 - March 1, 2003. This conference was a dual event; it also marked the initial meeting of the Miami-Dade Outreach Program with a Round Table discussion held between participating teachers and the Outreach Program leaders.
